Tiger Woods’ latest injury may not be as damaging as first believed.
Woods updated his status via Twitter on Monday night: “Got good news from doc tonight. Only mild strain of left Achilles. Can resume hitting balls late in week and hopeful for next week.”
This news comes after Woods limped for part of his final round at the WGC-Cadillac Championship one day earlier, withdrawing after his tee shot on the 12th hole. He later explained that his Achilles had tightened up in pre-round preparation and continued to get “progressively worse” throughout the afternoon.
Woods missed three months of action last season because of knee and Achilles injuries. His next scheduled competitive event was supposed to be the Tavistock Cup on March 19-20, followed by the Arnold Palmer Invitational later that week, his final tournament before the Masters.
In four PGA Tour starts this year, he owns a T-2, T-15 and T-17 in addition to Sunday’s withdrawal. He also finished in solo third place at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in his season debut
